Position Summary
Work Type & Schedule: This is a full-time, in-person position with standard hours of 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. However, work hours may be adjusted based on company needs. Flexibility is required to accommodate business demands.We are looking for a skilled and dependable Solar Electrician to join our installation and service team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for installing, wiring, troubleshooting, and maintaining solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This is a hands-on position requiring a solid electrical background, attention to detail, and a passion for renewable energy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install and wire solar PV systems, including inverters, disconnects, conduits, and grounding
- Ensure all work complies with local and national electrical codes (NEC)
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and service calls for residential and commercial systems
- Interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, and site plans
- Conduct system testing and commissioning to ensure proper functionality
- Work with installation crews and project managers to meet project timelines and quality standards
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site
- Complete accurate reports and documentation for each job
Qualifications
- Valid Illinois Journeyman License Preferred (or the ability to acquire)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical work (solar experience preferred)
- Familiarity with solar system components (inverters, racking, modules, batteries)
- Understanding of NEC and OSHA safety standards
- Comfortable working on rooftops, in crawlspaces, and on ladders
- Strong troubleshooting and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Preferred Skills
- Experience with solar battery systems (e.g., Enphase, Tesla,and Franklin)
- NABCEP certification (a plus but not required)
- Familiarity with permit and inspection processes in Illinois
Physical Demands
- Ability to transport materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks (up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds with assistance)
- Ability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces which requires frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and balance
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics, basements, and crawl spaces which requires kneeling and crouching
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions including but not limited to: excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet environment, and humidity
- Ability to frequently utilize hand functions requiring fine motor skills including but not limited to: fine manipulation, grasping, and pinching
- Ability to work and maintain balance on roofs and other areas of height
- Ability to work in the sun and possibly low light conditions
- Ability to walk on rafters, roof tiles, and roof shingles without damage
- Ability to distinguish colors such as red, black, yellow, white, green
- Ability to hear verbal commands and warnings
