Our Story
Sun Collectors started its journey when solar consultant, Hunter Trenary, and electrical engineer, William Grant, met at a music festival in Colorado. Intrigued by the potential of solar to create real change, the two made a life-altering decision. Within two weeks, William moved across the country to join Hunter. Together, they set out to pursue their vision.
Their first challenge? Large solar companies were chasing the gold rush, focusing on densely populated money pits and leaving homeowners in rural areas with high energy bills and no solutions in sight. Determined to make a difference, William and Hunter decided to focus on serving these communities which others deemed inconvenient or less profitable.
Today, Sun Collectors has installed thousands of solar systems across Central Illinois. The road hasn’t been easy, but our goal remains the same: to make solar energy more accessible and beneficial for all. We hope you will join us in creating a brighter, more sustainable future.

When we started Sun Collectors, our hearts were rooted not just in renewable energy — but in something deeper: a belief that business should feel like neighbor helping neighbor. What drew us to solar wasn’t a trend or a market opportunity — it was the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives, right here in Central Illinois.
From the very first conversations with homeowners, farmers, and small business owners, we realized something important: choosing solar isn’t just a technical decision — it’s a hopeful one. It’s about taking control of your future, protecting your family from rising energy costs, and caring for the land we all share. That sense of purpose guided every step we took.
We built this company around people — not sales targets. That means honest conversations, thoughtful answers, and a commitment to walk with you from your first question all the way through installation and beyond. We show up not because it’s our job, but because it’s our community too. Every system we design and install represents a relationship we’re honored to build.
